HOME ABOUT US AWARDS THEATRES JUDGES ABOUT OAXACA CITY OUTREACH CONTACT INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE COMPETITION |
||||||||
The competition is dedicated to providing a forum for the writer to display their talents. The relationship between cinema and literature has always been closely intertwined. It has proved on the whole a successful symbiosis, a relationship that remains to this day as inextricable as it is fruitful. The “event within the event”, celebrates writing as the interaction of a complex of processes-rhetorical, cognitive, social, and intuitive-that develop through social acquisition, formal training, and reflective practice. This year the submissions are limited to only 1000! - There are no limits on genre, subject matter, or origin of the writer. A classic definition of a short story is that one should be able to read it in one sitting, a point most notably made by Edgar Allan Poe. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

![]() The Oaxaca Lending Library was founded in 1966 and is one of the oldest continuously operating English language libraries in Mexico with a collection of 20,000 books in English and Spanish and over 450 members. The library’s programs connect the library and its members to the Oaxacan community. Saturday Intercambios where both English and Spanish are practiced draw large groups each week. ¡Niños Adelante! and ¡Jovenes Adelante! bring children ages 3 to 15 into the library for Saturday programs where participants are encouraged to borrow books for reading at home.
The Oaxaca Lending Library’s largest program, Libros Para Pueblos, locates and works with villages in the State of Oaxaca to establish a children's libraries. The community prepares the space and sets up their own system of maintenance and book checkout. Libros Para Pueblos works in an advisory capacity and purchases the books. 40 libraries have been established in its ten years of operation.
